Oil on Canvas
16 x 20 framed
This was an interesting piece for me to compose and paint.
As a child I used to build card towers. The tower represents me as a child. The paintings on the face of the cards are all artists that have, and still do, inspire me. They have all influenced me as an artist over the years. This is the building block of me as an artist.
I have been luckily enough to have witnessed all these paintings in person. Anywhere I go on holiday I always make a point of visiting paintings I've admired from a young age.
Artists represented:
Ace of spades - Leonardo's, Mona Lisa
Two of spades - Turners, The Fighting Temeraire
Three of Diamons - Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel extract
Five of Diamonds - Cezanne's, Oranges and Apples
Nine of Hearts - Vermeer's, Girl with Pearl Earring
Ten of Clubs - Van Gogh's, Dr. Gachet Portrait
Ten of Diamonds - Caravaggio's, Young Sick Bacchus
King of Spades - Rembrandt's, Belshazzar's Feast
Eight of Hearts is a supporting card and I'll let you guess which artist and painting it is.
On the back of the playing cards is Monet's The Water-Lilly Pond

This painting hangs as a focal piece on our dining room wall. The images on the cards always generate conversation and intrigue. Everyone comments on the level of detail and marvel at Gus’s artistic talent. We love the painting and feel we have many classics rolled into one. Thanks Gus, for a wonderful piece of art.
